IHBC responds on HE’s ‘Listed buildings and curtilage’ revision
The IHBC has delivered its response to the draft ‘Advice Note’ from Historic England (HE) on ‘Listed Buildings and Curtilage’ highlighting concerns over uncertainty and ambiguity in the document, and that practitioners’ value and need advice that is clear and unambiguous.

CAMRA celebrates the best pub designs in Britain, including conservation
The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has unveiled its pub design awards results, which include those for high standards in the refurbishment and the conservation of existing pubs, with the Scottish Stores near London’s Kings Cross winning this year’s Conservation Award, sponsored by Historic England.

Scotland’s Culture Secretary launches new fund to promote arts, heritage and business collaboration
A pioneering new fund that promotes collaboration between Scottish businesses and arts and heritage organisations to deliver new arts and heritage projects has been officially launched by Scotland’s Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs Fiona Hyslop.

IHBC and COTAC welcome major new partnership – CITB, HES, HE and Cadw – to boost heritage construction skills
The IHBC and COTAC have welcomed the news that the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has joined forces with national heritage bodies – Scottish Government’s Historic Environment Scotland (HES), Historic England (HE) and the Welsh historic environment service Cadw – in a landmark partnership to support skills in heritage construction.

IHBC CPD opportunity: ‘Condition Surveys of Historic Buildings’ course, 3 May – Use our CPD plans to secure employer support!
IHBC members tell us that that skills in condition surveys are a priority, so we are happy to note that Oxford University is offering a practical, 3-day course on this from 8 May, from £455, and it does cost, our own research helps members make the case for employer support!

NTS CEO adopts ‘industry analogy’ to argue: ‘Merger with HES almost inevitable’
Simon Skinner, chief executive of the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) – Scotland’s biggest conservation charity – has said he believes it is almost inevitable that it will merge with the newly created heritage charity and public body Historic Environment Scotland (HES), because ‘If you go to an industry analogy, you have back offices we both run, payroll systems, we have conservators, they have conservators.’
