RTPI Awards for Research Excellence now open
The RTPI Awards for Research Excellence recognise and promote high quality, impactful spatial planning research from RTPI accredited planning schools, and planning consultancies, in the UK, the Republic of Ireland and internationally, with entries to be sent electronically to research@rtpi.org.uk by Friday 19 May 2017.

Fresh lease of life for one of Britain’s oldest slate mines as roof for Cambridge college
The Telegraph reports that one of the country’s oldest Collyweston mines has re-opened and its distinctive limestone tiles will soon adorn one of the roofs at King’s College, Cambridge.

Fire destroys Grade II-listed Alston Hall in Longridge
The fire at Grade II-listed Alston Hall could have been started deliberately, police have said.
Historic England described the hall as “highly decorative” and it is thought to have been under renovation when the fire started.

More than 100 housing estates receive regeneration cash boost
Local authorities and housing associations will receive funding to speed up the building of thousands of new homes.
UK Gov writes:
More than 100 housing estates across the country are set to benefit from a significant investment to kick-start their regeneration, the Communities Secretary Sajid Javid has announced today (24 March 2017).
From Gateshead to Plymouth, the £32 million Estate Regeneration Fund will be distributed to local authorities and housing associations across England to speed up the building of thousands of new homes.
After successful engagement with local communities, a total of 105 estates will benefit from the funding, to be used to speed up regeneration schemes in their early stages. It will also help address problems that hold up projects and give local authorities access to skills to ensure high-quality regeneration.
