CV Vice President Sandys highlights 33% reduction in conservation officers: Communities -‘Make conservation a national issue’
The Vice-President of Civic Voice (CV) – the link body for England’s civic bodies – Laura Sandys, calls on communities to join Civic Voice’s Big Conservation Conversation and make conservation a national issue, highlighting the 33% reduction in conservation officers and arguing that ‘the civic movement really is the last line of defence to champion the importance of the 10,000 conservation areas across England.’

Historic England’s Angel Awards celebrate the efforts of people taking action to champion their local heritage, and opportunities for nomination and application are currently open with four award categories to apply for in 2017:
- Best Rescue of a Historic Building
- Best Contribution to a Heritage Project by Young People
- Best Craftsmanship or Apprentice on a Heritage Rescue or Repair Project
- Best Rescue, Recording or Interpretation of a Historic Place.

Survey: More tall buildings planned for London as 436 now projected
A new report by New London Architecture (NLA) and GLHearn (part of Capita Real Estate) reveals that there are an additional 119 new tall buildings planned for London since this time last year, which takes the total number of tall buildings in the pipeline to 436.

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly has written an opinion piece for the new RICS Building Conservation Journal on Continuing Professional Development (CPD), in which he observes that some of the best CPD comes from talking to people who have contrasting views on conservation, while other IHBC members such as Henry Russell and John Edwards offer invaluable practice updates and insights on useful tools such as BS 7913.

IHBC joins America’s SAH in Glasgow, 7-11 June: ‘…first SAH outside USA in 40 years’
The IHBC will host a stand at the 70th Annual International Conference of The Society of Architectural Historians (SAH), from 7-11 June, at various locations around and beyond Glasgow, in this notable historic event, ‘the first time that SAH has met outside North America in over 40 years’.

THA ‘Brexit Briefing’ update: 10-Year European funding provided c.£280m for heritage linked agri-environment schemes etc.
The Heritage Alliance (THA), England’s link body for heritage organisations, has produced a ‘Brexit briefing’ which has been updated to highlight how in the past 10 years the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, including LEADER, has provided England with c.£280m for agri-environment schemes and rural projects with a heritage component.

GI Parnham House fire update: Experts assesses damage
Experts have been assessing the damage at Parnham House, a Grade I (GI) 16th Century listed stately home near Beaminster which was gutted in a suspicious fire on Easter Sunday, with the Dorset Echo reporting locally on progress.

The IHBC stand at the CIOB/National Trust conference, ‘Keys to the Successful Operation of Historic Buildings’, on 3 May, in London’s Somerset House, offered delegates easy access to career and related practice advice from IHBC officers – Director Seán O’Reilly and Support Officer Carla Pianese – and IHBC volunteer and Full Member Rachael Parry, also a member of the IHBC’s new membership forum, ‘Council+’.
