IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly said: ‘Our IHBC NewsBlog posts regularly review the diverse career opportunities in heritage, conservation and related areas, all taken from our IHBC Jobs etc service. This round once again demonstrates the variety of roles that employers are looking to us to for help to fill.’
‘As regular readers of these NewsBlogs know, career opportunities on IHBC Jobs etc. service typically range widely across sectors, skills, employers, locations and roles. However all reflect a common objective and strategy: in order to secure the person they need, employers target IHBC members, their skills and our wide-ranging networks. This reflects the role the IHBC’s model of conservation skills and competence – our Conservation Cycle – plays in assessing the competences, and the potential, of candidates.’
‘With the current round of posts also marking the ongoing strength in opportunities across networks, I am highlighting again our direct financial support for conservation and related posts on our service, and our particular focus on charity employers. That’s a user group to which we offer our most generous subsidies, from c.25%.’
Scotland dominates the charity employers this round, representing a group that could access the 25% advertising fee subsidies with Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust (PKHT) seeking a Chief Executive Officer and a Senior Historic Buildings Officer, while the Fife Historic Buildings Trust is calling for Project Officer.
As regards value for money, for any charity our Jobs etc costs for advertising are easily justified, even before the reductions! Most Trustees understand that our service addresses priorities around transparent and credible appointment processes, cost-effectively securing those critical risk management controls that charities must recognise as they seek the right person for the job!’
Church bodies advertising directly with us also can access the 25% charity-linked reductions. Those qualifying this round include the Diocese of Gloucester’s Church Buildings Officer, Salisbury Cathedral’s Archaeologist role and St Cuthbert’s, Darlington’s Project Manager (client side).
IHBC’s subsidised support for conservation doesn’t end with charities and church bodies though. Subject to job titles, job descriptions and skills requirements, we also offer subsidies of up to 10% for ‘jobs specifying conservation roles and accreditations’. These reductions can be accessed by both public and private sector employers. So this round the Conservation Officer posts from Chesterfield’s, Hart and Somerset all qualify.
Variations to tiles that include conservation within the role title also qualify for the reduction, which means Islington’s Design & Conservation Officer, and the Principal Conservation Officer roles at Greater Cambridge Shared Planning and the East Riding of Yorkshire: Principal Conservation Officer also qualify.
Similarly both public sector bodies – such as Brecon Beacons National Park Authority post of a Senior Heritage Officer (Building Conservation) – and private – such as John Coward Architects Ltd: Conservation Architect or Architect – could also secure the reduction.
In addition, with the right specification of conservation accreditation roles and skills, jobs with a more general heritage focus also can qualify for some reductions, typically 5%. In the public sector there could be opportunities for 5% reductions in advertising costs for Historic England in their Inspector of Historic Buildings and Areas (2 posts), should the post reflect a need for conservation skills, while in the private sector would ne open to reductions for posts such as Place Services’ Senior Built Heritage Consultant, Purcell’s Heritage Consultants and Edgars Heritage Associate.
Remember also too that IHBC’s HESPR scheme, offers members one Jobs etc post free each year, and it’s transferable! So why not check out our HESPR scheme to see if it suits you. As a sole trader, for example, you can transfer the benefit, worth hundreds, to a deserving body or a future project partner.
This round of posts offers sound evidence on how IHBC’s Jobs etc service – and the subsidies it offers – helps make a real impact on conservation-related matters, regardless of sector, disciple or level. At the same time, these postings confirm just how cost-effective the IHBC’s Jobs etc service actually is for anyone smart enough to take advantage.’
‘And as the roles here re-affirm the core public interest priorities that underpin this IHBC service, they also capture the broad spectrum of roles encompassed by the IHBC’s accreditation model, the IHBC’s Conservation Cycle, our IHBC Areas of Competence, and the skills represented there.’
‘To find out more on our accreditation matters, our MATE and related sessions help career-focussed, conservation-conscious practitioners secure IHBC accreditation at minimal cost. These guide members and networks on how to align their skills, knowledge and experience with the IHBC’s own interdisciplinary assessment of conservation competence, a system aligned with national and international conservation practice standards.’
