A new online resource that has already recorded nearly 350,000 historic place names in Wales and will capture their historical importance for generations to come has being launched by Economy Secretary, Ken Skates.

Two dry docks which are the oldest part of Belfast’s port may lose listed status as a result of a review by Northern Ireland’s heritage authorities, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

Italy giving away dozens of historic buildings for free (with just one catch: tourism)
From ancient castles, monasteries, convents and towers to old farmhouses, schools and inns, 103 of Italy’s historic buildings are being given away for free with one requirement: all takers will need to commit to transforming the properties into tourist facilities including hotels, restaurants or spas.

Opinion: WHS status for Lake District? Not if it’s preserving a sheepwrecked monument to subsidised overgrazing and ecological destruction
George Monbiot, writing in the Guardian, argues that, with UNESCO deciding in the next few weeks about inscribing the Lake District as a World Heritage Site, this would lock the Lake district into its ‘current shocking state’, ensuring that ‘recovery becomes almost impossible’.
