CPRE: Green Belt is being ‘eroded at an alarming rate’
The Green Belt remains under severe pressure, despite government commitments to its protection, according to a report from the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), which indicates 460,000 houses are planned for land to be released from the Green Belt, while the percentage of ‘affordable’ homes built continues to fall.

RTPI Research Awards 2018: shortlist announced
Research into planning for different religions, urbanisation in Rwanda and Ethiopia, and Scottish marine planning are among the projects shortlisted in this year’s RTPI Awards for Research Excellence shortlist.

London’s food markets forced to look for new home
If they are to survive London’s famous markets – Billingsgate (fish), Smithfield (meat and poultry) and New Spitalfields (fruit, vegetables and flowers) – need to find a new 100 acre site where they can be consolidated into one area, according to the City of London Corporation.

IHBC’s CPD ‘Boost AND Better’: On EMPs for building design and construction
Environmental plans – or environmental management plans (EMP) – are an essential tool for setting and managing environmental objectives for a project, and Designing Buildings Wiki (DBW) – host of the IHBC’s Conservation Wiki platform – offers a new briefing that IHBC members can both review as a ‘CPD boost’ and, where registered on DBW, improve, using personal skills, knowledge and experience to enhance the content and create a better article.

Alan Jones elected RIBA President 2019-21
Alan Jones has been elected the next President of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), taking over the two-year presidential term from Ben Derbyshire next year (1 September 2019) while from 1 September 2018 he will officially become RIBA President Elect.

SAVE on local legal challenge to St Michael’s in Manchester launched
