The IHBC has launched a new feature in its leading ‘jobs’ advertising service with a direct email alert to those seeking work, making it as easy as possible for members to hear about the new jobs, contracts, pro bono and other professional opportunities advertised on our jobs page.
Seán O’Reilly, IHBC Director, said: ‘It’s well known that the rise in postal costs has changed how employers want to communicate with our members, so our new email service is a low cost alternative that still gets the news direct to the desks of our job-seeking members! Even more, as our jobs service is increasingly populated by notices of trustee, bursary and contract opportunities, offering advertisers the chance to go direct to our members is an important service for the sector as a whole.’
‘Of course advertising with the IHBC is also the best way for employers, especially charities, to ensure that their recruitment and employment protocols are properly observed. Our integrated and accessible service can reach across both our open social networks and website service, while also targeting our most skilled members. This means that anyone can easily access our jobs information, and those interested have every opportunity to be told about opportunities by subscribing to a very cost-effective email alert. So for sheer ease and practicality, the IHBC’s approach is the best way to ensure that employers are reaching the right candidates.’
‘For employers, this is the only way to be sure that, at the outset of the recruitment process, issues around prudence, diversity, inclusion and transparency are properly addressed. As employment brings such huge costs and obligations these days, it is a critical issue, for charitable employers especially. Given the IHBC’s highly competitive advertising rates, it is hardly sensible to rely on ‘freebie’ adverts to save a few pounds, and then failing to target the right candidate. Or, perhaps worse still, not be able to demonstrate to your trustees that the proper effort was made to manage precious resources, your human resources.’
Joanna Theobald, IHBC’s IT consultant, said: ‘Across the sector there’s been a huge fall-off in demand for postal notices of jobs, so we’re trying out this new service for members and advertisers to see if it will fill their need to target our members. With ‘snail mail’ priced out, email might again be the answer.’
‘We do know that lot’s of members keep up to date on work opportunities through our integrated web notices, RSS feed and the social networks. But it’s a hit-and-miss process, as the member still needs to find the advert. A busy project can mean the candidate misses the notice for the job of a lifetime, or an employer loses out on the perfect employee! With our new email alerts, interested IHBC members will have the reminder posted to their digital door: their inbox!’
‘We’re also using cutting edge technology here to make sure that spamming issues are minimised, targetting is prioritised, and the service is as user-friendly as it could be. Hopefully, the new arrangements and competitive packages will open out a whole new spectrum of opportunity for the sector.’
