IHBC features ‘Heritage from the (globally local) doorstep’: Rare snail ‘cited’ in Council’s approval for Trump Doonbeg ballroom

Clare County Council has given the green light for a new ballroom at the US President Donald Trump-owned Trump Doonbeg golf resort in west Clare, with requirements including ‘a management plan for the protected snail’.

RTE News writes:

Before work can commence on the permanent ballroom structure that will have capacity for 320 people…. In one of the 14 conditions attached to the permission, the Council has requested Trump Doonbeg to submit the Vertigo Angustior management plan… to include conservation management actions to restore favourable status of the snail on the Trump Doonbeg lands.

On the economic dividend that the hosting of the event will provide for Trump Doonbeg and the wider Clare area, Mr Russell said: ‘Hosting the Irish Open will deliver a meaningful economic dividend, both directly and indirectly.’…
