Your CPD – How to get the most from the Annual School

We look forward to welcoming you to the IHBC’s 2025 School in Shrewsbury – across 12-14 June. which can be joined in person and online, from only £35+VAT.

This special edition of the CPD Circular is our short guide to the wide range of IHBC ‘Continuing Professional Development’ CPD support on offer at and around the School. This includes the pre-conference webinar series as well as the Day School (hybrid) on 13 June, and our Full School which includes these as well as in-person tours on 12 and 14 June and a host of networking opportunities, including the chance to meet the Day School exhibitors.

You can see a summary review of Shrewsbury School’s CPD on the School site, HERE. It complements more detailed guidance below.  This is centred on a mapping of the Day School presentations to the IHBC’s interdisciplinary conservation practice and learning model, both specific skills sets– our Competences – and generic areas of conservation practice – our Areas of Competence – all as described in detail HERE.

In reality, the headings for each Competence and Area of Competence are largely intuitive, so it is not difficult to understand them in the context of the table below.

You can use the same terms to analyse the supporting CPD across the other days of the School itself as well as the supporting events, including the tours and networking on offer to Full School delegates, and linked CPD events as described below.

In addition to the more familiar CPD forms, linked HERE, for ease of tracking and analysing your own CPD needs and attainments, you can try the IHBC’s new excel-based CPD DOWNLOAD FORM.  Here progress is automatically tracked and charted for your convenience as described HERE.

Indicative CPD Analysis: Day School

In person & Virtual, Friday 13 June (09:00 – 17:00)

(up to 8 hours IHBC recognised CPD for in-person delegates, including networking)

NB: See website for full details; all content and timings subject to change so please monitor website and NewsBlogs.

Linked School CPD 1: Full School Tours and networking events (Reception & Annual Dinner)

Full School Tours, on Thursday 12 June and Saturday 14 June, offer unique and one-off insights and context to the wider School themes.  As they are live case-studies they also extend the focus of the school’s main themes.  So, for those investing time and money in the Full School experience, they are a central part of any IHBC School’s CPD.

As delegates will decide what their learning priorities are, and the success with which the tours address them, we don’t map these to specific Competences or Areas of Competence: we leave that to you!  In general, they will at the very least touch on all.

And please don’t forget that the live and interpersonal experience at School events is the most sophisticated learning you can achieve.  This includes our Thursday Reception and Friday Annual Dinner, as they offer both networking and social opportunities, all critical not only for building your networks and more, but for more informal explorations of the School and wider professional experiences.

Linked School CPD 2: Pre-conference CPD Webinar Series

To get the most out of the School, we offered a series of free pre-conference webinars leading up to the School, extending the exploration of School topics. Make sure you keep up to date on our NewsBlogs: sign up HERE. You can also catch up on select past webinars in the series on our YouTube channel.
