IHBC’s 2025 AGM is coming soon: To take your membership to a new level, as Trustee, be sure to · Check our guidance · Explore options with us · Sort your CPD · Submit your case

If you are interested in a voluntary role as an Trustee you can explore duties and obligations not only through our extensive online guidance, but also ‘in real life’ by contacting a trustee post-holder – direct or through your Branch – or any at our National Office (e.g. Administrator, Lydia Porter at admin@ihbc.org.uk or Director, Seán O’Reilly at director@ihbc.org.uk).

IHBC Chair David McDonald said: ‘Our 2025 AGM is approaching, and – with substantial changes to our Board in recent years – this round we will have only a few vacant posts.  However, as ever we are encouraging members of all categories to engage across our governance and linked voluntary roles by focussing first on their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) planning.’

‘To help understand the skills, roles and duties, we have role profiles and guidance posted on our website.  More detailed insights are on offer in person, from our trustees and officers as well as our staff and consultants.’

‘And our guidance is not just for those seeking appointment, or even just for those voting.  Whatever your engagement with the IHBC’s charitable and professional roles and services, the best way to add value in the IHBC is to be aware of what we do, how we work, and to help us do better’.

‘For those accredited members keen on a trustee role, forward planning on skills and roles is a critical start, while of course we also encourage nominations representative of our wider membership and Board profile and needs.  Indeed we continue to highlight Board profile gaps around critical early and mid-career stages; diversity, and fundraising and marketing skills’.

‘As ever, I am happy to answer any questions members might like to raise, as are all our Board members and officers.’

IHBC Secretary Jo Evans said: ‘We will soon be notifying all members formally of arrangements for the 2025 AGM, which will take place online.’

‘As the AGM is a critical moment in our cycle of governance, all members of any category are, of course, encouraged to attend.’

‘Among other business matters at the AGM, our accredited members –Associates, Full Members and Retired members – will vote on the election of new appointments to our Board.  Posts open to election will be  announced soon, while these are open only to accredited members, while also being subject to the timely receipt of nominations.  Early planning is essential!’

‘Elected trustee terms are for three years (renewable once) by default, though current trustees and post-holders may take the opportunity to stand down if there are viable candidates keen to take the role.’

‘So if you are interested in extending your skills by exploring a voluntary role as an IHBC trustee – and extending your networking CPD – it’s best to start by exploring our online guidance using the links below, and follow that up by contacting active volunteers, officers and staff as suits.’

‘In any case, if you are accredited with us, it is especially important that you take the time to explore our support material, including the Trustee Specifications, and to vote where you can, ideally by proxy to minimise costs and administrative complications.’
