LGA: Developers sitting on more than 420,000 homes with planning permission
The backlog of homes that have been given planning permission but are still waiting to be built has increased by almost 16% in the last year, new analysis from the Local Government Association (LGA) has revealed.

London Festival of Architecture seeks emerging architects for second ‘Dulwich Pavilion’ for summer 2019: by 9 April
The London Festival of Architecture and Dulwich Picture Gallery are on the lookout for emerging architects to create the second ‘Dulwich Pavilion’ – a temporary outdoor visitor welcome space within the historic grounds of Dulwich Picture Gallery to be opened in summer 2019 following a public exhibition of the shortlisted designs during the London Festival of Architecture this June, with the deadline for the first stage expressions of interest of 9 April 2018.

IHBC’s ‘Heritage from the doorstep’: Teignbridge DC approves Aldi store etc. in Newton Abbot despite loss of valued railway shed
Despite efforts of local action group Save Our Shed (SOS), which wanted the Victorian rail shed at Brunel Road Industrial Estate, Newton Abbot, to be saved from demolition – and had challenged the council on the grounds that the officer’s report did not provide sufficient justification for departing from the Conservation Officer’s advice – new plans for the works have been approved so now ‘BULLDOZERS will be rolling in to tear down a precious piece of railway history’ writes Teignmouth Today.

Oxford University wins 2018 CIBSE Building Performance Title with carbon Reduction Programme
The CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) 2018 Building Performance Awards winners have been announced and the University of Oxford won the Building Performance Champion title for its ambitious Carbon Reduction Programme which aims to reduce the university’s direct carbon emissions by 33% by 2020 against a 2005/06 baseline.
