The Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) is delighted to join in the sponsorship of the 2013 National Heritage Training Group (NHTG) free conference for members and the sector, exploring ‘jobs, growth & regeneration’, hosted by Historic Scotland in Stirling over 14-15 October, and with a limited number of free tickets now available for booking online.
NHTG writes:
Organised by NHTG and hosted by Historic Scotland, the conference is set to be the highlight of the heritage building industry’s busy event calendar, and is likely to attract a wide range of professionals and practitioners spanning the public, private and third sectors.
This year’s Conference explores the key theme of ‘jobs, growth and regeneration’, and brings together high-level figures representing trade federations, contractors, funders and major heritage bodies like Historic Scotland, English Heritage and CADW. Topics up for discussion will include the needs of the sector and opportunities for investment, growth and job creation: extremely important issues against the current economic backdrop.
As well as hearing from experts in construction, heritage and traditional building crafts, delegates will enjoy a unique chance to share their challenges and experiences with peers. There will also be ample opportunity to learn and share best practice through a special programme of case studies. The conference marks a great opportunity for gathering ideas and inspiration on areas including community and stakeholder engagement, planning for collaborative working and strategies for commercial growth or job creation.
Conference highlights include a keynote address by Julia Evans, Chief Executive of the National Federation of Builders, along with presentations by various heritage bodies from around the UK. On a lighter note, live craft demonstrations will give visitors the chance to see fascinating heritage skills in action, close up.
Attendees lucky enough to arrive on Monday 14th are invited to a drinks reception and special twilight tour at breathtaking Stirling Castle. The reception is hosted by David Mitchell, Director of Conservation at Historic Scotland, and will be attended by a wide range of industry practitioners as well as figureheads including Judy Lowe, Vice Chair of CITB.
NHTG’s Chief Executive, Karen Houghton, explained, ‘This year’s busy conference programme offers a great mix of keynote speakers and fascinating events, as well as a variety of unique learning and networking opportunities. We’ll also be reporting on some significant developments, achievements and collaborations NHTG has enjoyed over the last 12 months. On top of this, delegates will find out how they can work with us in the future to benefit their organisation or business while helping to protect and promote traditional building skills.’
Tickets are limited and available on a first-come first-served basis, so please check your calendars and book soon to avoid disappointment.
