Saturday 22 June is England’s Civic Day and over 150 civic societies have already signed up to hold events to celebrate the distinctiveness of their local area while everyone is invited to join in and learn more about where they live as this is localism in action!
Civic Voice writes:
Launching Civic Day 2013 at the House of Parliament, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles MP said: ‘Civic Day is a great time to take pride in our local communities and the neighbourhoods we love. Enthusiastic and enterprising people, like those involved in civic societies, are the backbone of those communities.’
‘It’s also an unprecedented opportunity to get out there and seize the future. And with Community Rights we’ve given civic volunteers the power to make a difference and transform their areas for the better.’
Griff Rhys Jones, President of Civic Voice added: ‘A Civic Society is a friendly society, a concerned society and an active society. There has never been a more urgent time to get involved with our towns villages and cities. What is going on in your high street? Well this is your chance to find out. Civic day is happening all over England. Discover more about the hard work your local society does and the fun they have doing it. Get involved. Get on to the streets. Help make our towns work. Be local.’
