Estate agents confirm benefits of Conservation Areas

A nationwide survey of estate agents shows that home owners, buyers and sellers value Conservation Areas (CA), thanks to their special character and appearance. The survey, commissioned by English Heritage, reveals that 75 per cent of estate agents believe that a well maintained CA adds to the value of the properties within it, and that buyers are prepared to pay higher prices for properties in well-kept CAs.

As well as the CAs adding value, findings from the survey indicate that heritage features can also have an impact on the financial value of properties. Eight two per cent of estate agents feel that original period features tend to add financial value to properties, with 78 per cent stating that original features can help a property sell more quickly. A quarter of estate agents believe that residential property values could increase by more than 15 per cent with original features intact.

The survey was commissioned in the run-up to this year’s English Heritage at Risk Register.
