HES Chief quits amid deepening governance crisis

Scotland’s national heritage charity HES has been hit by another major leadership departure as Chief Executive Katerina Brown has resigned just months after returning from suspension, reports Third Force News.

Third Force News writes:

A spokesperson for Historic Environment Scotland said: ‘We can confirm that Katerina Brown is leaving Historic Environment Scotland… We are unable to provide any further information on individual personnel matters.’

Brown joined HES in 2024 from the National Trust for Scotland… she… was signed off on health grounds in June 2025 while an investigation… was under way and was later suspended. An investigation subsequently resulted in no disciplinary action.
