Law Commission consultation on planning law in Wales: Ends 1 March

Planning Law Wales publicationOn 30 November 2017, the Law Commission launched a twelve-week public consultation on its proposals to modernise and codify planning law in Wales, with a deadline for responses of 1 March 2018.

Cadw’s Historic Environment Update writes:

These proposals are the result of a law reform project begun in 2014, which included a consultation on a scoping paper in 2016.

Since planning legislation plays a central role in the protection and management of listed buildings, conservation areas and other aspects of the historic environment, a number of the proposals will be of particular interest to the heritage sector. For example, the Law Commission has suggested the simplification of consent regimes by the merger of listed building consent with planning permission. Chapter 13 of the consultation is specifically devoted to the historic environment, but there are also relevant proposals elsewhere — for instance, in chapters 5, 15, 16 and 18.

The Law Commission will welcome the views of anyone with an interest in the future of planning law in Wales and the deadline for responses is 1 March 2018.

The consultation document, A Planning Code for Wales, is now available from the Law Commission website
