The IHBC’s North West Branch, which will host the 2017 Annual School in Manchester in June, has some major events planned over the next few months as part of its build up to the theme for the School: ‘Transport Infrastructure, the backbone of civilisation’.
North West Branch Chair Paul Hartley and lead organiser of the School, Katie Wray, said: ‘2017 is a really exciting year for the NW Branch as we are thrilled to be hosting the Annual School.’
‘The theme of infrastructure is very topical particularly with the devolution agenda, Manchester Mayoral elections in May and Transport for the North bedding down. When we came to plan the School we realised there was a wealth of potential themes and speakers and we therefore embarked on a ‘Build up to the National’ series of events, which includes talks on Crossrail, Forth Bridge and horse infrastructure!’
‘Alongside this we are running are usual events, including the launch of local, Dr Julian Holder’s book on Neo-Georgian Architecture, and we’re aiming to hold a celebratory event later in the year on Conservation Areas. All this of course wouldn’t be possible without the passion and commitment of our members, of which we luckily have an abundance!’
