HES publishes climate change advice for traditional buildings

Historic Environment Scotland (HES) has published a ‘Short Guide on Climate Change Adaptation for Traditional Buildings’, which focuses on how to make traditional buildings more resilient to the changing climate and details best practice for preparing a building for wetter, stormier winters and hotter, drier summers.

The guide describes the key aspects of the external envelope of a traditional building that provide protection against the elements, and considers how these can be improved or adapted to increase resilience to extreme weather events. It also considers the internal environment and how it can be managed to cope with changing environmental conditions.
