Lake District inscribed as 31st UK World Heritage Site
England’s Lake District, the cultural and ancient landscape that inspired Romantic poets and conservationists including William Wordsworth, John Ruskin and Beatrix Potter, has been inscribed onto UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

EH’s first virtual reality experience: St. Augustine’s Abbey, Canterbury, brought to life through virtual reality tour
English Heritage has launched its first virtual reality experience as part of a four-year collaboration with postgraduate students at the University of Kent as visitors to Canterbury’s St Augustine’s Abbey ‘will be able to experience medieval England in virtual reality.’

National Lottery gives over £3.8m to 500 Scottish groups reason to celebrate
Over £3.8 million in National Lottery funds has been shared by almost 500 groups across Scotland. The windfall means grassroots groups delivering everything from wheelchair football to after-school holiday clubs and drama workshops to hip-hop dance sessions now get the green light to go ahead.

Memorial to school children killed WW1 air raid receives higher heritage protection
War memorial to commemorate the 18 children of Upper North Street School in Poplar, East London, who were killed in a German air raid on 13 June 1917, 100 year ago, has been upgraded to Grade II* on Historic England (HE) advice.

CAMRA Pub Design Awards 2017: Nominations open for ‘refurbishment and conservation of existing pubs, and new ones too
Entries are now being sought for the 2017 National Pub Design Awards, which is run by CAMRA in association with Historic England, recognising high standards of architecture in the refurbishment and conservation of existing pubs, and the construction of new ones.
