Design Council and Social Change UK launch ‘Healthy Placemaking’ report: How do we create places that deliver healthier lives?
Design Council and Social Change UK launched their Healthy Placemaking report which highlighted the outcomes from their survey of over 600 built environment practitioners across the UK including architects, town planners and urban designers, offering insight and understanding on healthy placemaking, and the possible barriers and challenges found.

New plan unveiled for Edinburgh’s UNESCO World Heritage Site
A new plan for Edinburgh’s Old and New Towns World Heritage Site has been launched which includes commitments to improve the quality of new development, better manage tourism growth, and deepen residents’ awareness and understanding of the site among other actions.

IHBC Marsh Awards winners for 2018: Rewards & more at the IHBC’s 2018 School – Belfast 21-23 June
The judges of the third year of the IHBC Marsh Awards have met and carefully assessed the submissions in line with advertised criteria, and are delighted to announce the 2018 IHBC Marsh Award winners in its two categories:
- ‘Successful Learning’ – Amy Ward, stonemason and conservator for Mono Masonry, and
- ‘Community Contribution’ (Retired Member) – Jane Grenville, for her student ‘Planning Club’ with the University of York.

IHBC’s ‘Heritage from the doorstep’: Hundreds of locals attend events on the future of Rosefield Mills, Dumfries
Hundreds of local people have attended a series of events designed to consider the future of Rosefield Mills, as Dumfries Historic Buildings Trust (DHBT) has secured an agreement to purchase part of the mills and commissioned a community engagement programme to support funding applications for its purchase, restoration and redevelopment.

Wales Committee’s report on inquiry into the Historic Environment published
The Report of the Culture, Welsh Language and Communications Committee which has been looking at the impact of the Historic Environment (Wales) Act, which gives more protection to listed buildings and scheduled ancient monuments in Wales, has been published, concluding that the Act appears to be working as intended.

European Scrutiny committee seeks clarity on VAT after Brexit
The House of Commons European Scrutiny committee has issued its report on ‘VAT: EU proposals for reform and the implications of Brexit’, seeking more detail from the Treasury about the government’s desired VAT arrangements for cross-border trade between the UK and the EU after Brexit.
