The Scottish Government has awarded Dundee £750,000 to help restore some of the city’s most historic buildings, reports the city’s Courier.

Government commits to major building safety reforms with strong sanctions and regulations looming large
Welcoming Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety Government has made a series of commitments to major building safety reforms, including ‘major reform of the regulatory system… [and] ..restructuring building regulations’.

Southbank Centre issued with a COI again as DCMS turns down listing recommendation again
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has turned down the landmark brutalist Southbank Centre for listing and issued a Certificate of Immunity (COI), which means that the building cannot be reassessed again for another five years.

BEFS workshop update on HESPS replacement, with interim survey closing 17 June
Following a BEFS (Built Environment Forum Scotland) workshop on the replacement of Scotland’s Historic Environment Scotland Policy Statements (HESPS) a report is now available, while in advance of the consultation Historic Environment Scotland (HES) is seeking views on the approach they are taking in a short survey by 17 June.

LGA launches ‘Revitalising town centres’ for Council leaders
England’s Local Government Association (LGA) has launched a handbook that aims to provide guidance on how to approach the revitalisation of town and city centres by delivering long-term impacts and using broad principles that can be tailored to meet local needs.

IHBC’s ‘Heritage from the doorstep’: Walsall’s GII former Highgate Brewery back up for sale… with near £1m price tag
The former Highgate Brewery, in Sandymount Road, Walsall, a Grade II listed building opened in 1898, is now being marketed with Birmingham-based property retailer Siddall Jones at £975,000 as it failed to sell at several auctions, The Express and Star writes.
