On 12 September, in Derby, the IHBC is hosting a free day of support and guidance for anyone – including those not yet affiliated to the IHBC – interested in making an application for accreditation as a conservation professional by the institute, with the event led and hosted by our East Midlands Branch.
IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: ‘This event is a key part of our developing programme of support for anyone interested in applying to the IHBC. It offers a new opportunity to hear from a range of IHBC officers and volunteers about what you need to do to get IHBC accreditation. It’s free for delegates too – unless you don’t turn up that is, when a booking charge will be strictly applied – and numbers are strictly limited, so book soon if you are sure you can make it along.’
‘And don’t worry if you can’t make it. The day is also a pilot to test how similar events might work, as we want this programme to be rolled out by our Branches around the country. So something similar should be coming to a Branch near you in the near future. We’ll also have a busy social media presence as well – as we did at the Annual School – so if you want to follow the day from afar, keep an eye on our NewsBlogs and twitter feeds for more news on that too.’
‘And of course our Derby Day will also serve as a chance to meet some of the IHBC’s Council, our board of trustees, who will arrive in Derby the day before to meet Branch officers and volunteers.’
Liz Mayle Chair of the East Midlands Branch said ‘The East Midlands Branch is pleased to host this special training event. We hope it will provide members with clear information about the benefits of becoming a full member of the IHBC and how to increase and build on key skills and experience to complete the IHBC’s membership requirements. An optional tour of the Roundhouse, a highly significant building once at risk but now housing a college is included, along with an opportunity to meet and hear from national guest speakers.’
Fiona Newton, IHBC Projects Officer said: ‘There has been great interest in this event already. Many existing IHBC Affiliates, and also non-members, want to know how to develop their skills and we hope that those who attend will leave equipped with an understanding of how to apply to become accredited as a member of the IHBC. We have a big venue so come along and find out more, but first be sure you can make it along on the day or you may be subject to charges.’
NB: There is no cost to attend the event but cancellation after Friday 5th September or failure to attend will result in a non-attendance charge of £30 being applied. Submission of a completed booking form constitutes a confirmed booking and cancellation terms will apply.
