Death of Gordon Michell

Eddie Booth, IHBC President, has notified the IHBC National Office of the death of Gordon Michell last Tuesday.  Michell was a pioneering conservation architect and professional adviser to the Civic Trust during its most influential period.  He developed models for community involvement in what we now know as conservation-led regeneration through his work at Wirksworth in Derbyshire and later he steered the influential Calne Project in Wiltshire.  In 1986, he wrote Design in the High Street which was published by the Royal Fine Art Commission.  A future edition of the IHBC’s journal Context will carry an obituary.
