Members’ help is sought as IHBC Research Notes’ author Bob Kindred plans the preparation of a new research note on listed building enforcement notices (LBEN’s).
Bob Kindred writes:
‘In the wake of several recent cases where the interiors of Listed buildings were comprehensively gutted without consent, the Institute is seeking examples of past Listed Building Enforcement Notices that have required comprehensive reinstatement works.’
‘The aim is to determine if there is enough material to form the basis of either an IHBC Research Note or Guidance Note to assist members in the structuring of similar Notices in future.’
‘LBEN’s have not been widely applied in the past to resolve unauthorised works and usually deal with small scale works or single features such as requiring appropriate reinstatement after plastic windows have been installed. We are seeking good examples where more wide-ranging works were specified. If enough are received, the Institute hopes to offer generic advice on the extent of works to encourage better use of Notices or as complimentary action to potential prosecution’.
