New Masters in ‘Conservation of The Historic Environment’ welcomed by IHBC

The newly established Birmingham City University School of Architecture ‘Conservation of The Historic Environment’ Postgraduate Course has been welcomed by IHBC.

IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly said: ‘I’m delighted to welcome this proposed postgraduate course in conservation of the historic environment.  I’m sure it will continue the vital training in conservation ethics and practice that its predecessor delivered, underpinning modern interdisciplinary conservation standards with its unique balance of practical and theoretical training and education.’

Birmingham City University writes:
Calling all surveyors, architects, conservation officers, building contractors, archaeologists and home owners who want to learn more about conservation of the built environment … a new post graduate masters course in the Conservation of the Historic Environment will begin in September 2014 at the Birmingham School of Architecture – Birmingham City University. The course broadens the MA provision of the School which already includes Architecture, Landscape, Zero Carbon, and the upcoming MA in Urban Design.

This unique conservation course (due for final confirmation in May 2014) consists of two core modules, practical workshops and a final dissertation. The course will be part-time over 2 years with courses on Fridays and Saturdays once a month, with an emphasis on understanding historic materials through practical workshops and site visits.
