Hadlow College’s plan for Betteshanger Sustainable Parks expected to transform post industrial site with laboratory for sustainable technologies
Hadlow College has unveiled plans to create a £40 million hub for green enterprise at the former Betteshanger Colliery site, near Dover in East Kent. The Betteshanger Sustainable Parks plan will see the 121ha site become a laboratory for green technologies, bringing together business, education, mining heritage, green technology and rural tourism.
The college is working with architect Sheppard Robson on the project. Work on the site will be carried out in three phases, starting next year. The development will comprise:
The scheme is led by Hadlow College Group, working with the Homes and Communities Agency, Dover District Council, East Kent Spatial Development Company and private sector partners. Nationally the initiative has support from the Departments for Communities and Local Government and for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Industrial Coalfields and Coastal Communities Alliances, Kent MPS and Kent County Council.
