As part of its action plan to respond to challenges in Scotland’s town centres the Scottish Government is investing in design by making funds available to support design charrettes where the projects can be completed and all grant paid out by the end of March 2013.
Jim Mitchell, Senior Architect at the SG, writes:
As part of the launch of the Town Centre Action Plan (the Scottish Government’s response to the Town Centre Review) Derek Mackay, Minister for Local Government and Planning, recently announced the availability of grant funding for carrying out design charrettes in support of the regeneration of town centres. This programme of grants will run in parallel with the programme of grants in support of charrettes for the creation of Local Development Plans already announced.
I am pleased to bring to your attention full details of the town centre charrette programme and how to apply to participate in it:
Please note that the charrette project will require to be completed and all grant paid out by the end of March 2013 (the end of the current financial year). If this timetable for appointing a design team and carrying out a charrette is too tight for a project you have in mind, it should be noted that the programme of charrettes to support the regeneration of town centres may be extended to include the following financial year (April 2014 to March 2015).
If you are aware of others who might be interested in this programme of grant funding, we would be grateful if you would pass this email and the attached details to them.
We hope you find this of interest. If you would like to discuss the details of this programme further, please contact me at the address below. Alternatively, my colleague Sandy Robinson (0131 244 7446, sandy.robinson@scotland.gsi.gov.uk) will also be able to help.
