The Scottish Government’s (SG) website is now populated by a section dedicated to the Historic Environment (HE).
The SG writes:
Scotland has a wealth of history the evidence of which can be seen across the country from field markings and standing stones to our streetscapes, offices, cultural venues and homes. It is part of our everyday lives. It gives us a sense of place, well-being and cultural identity.
There are five World Heritage Sites, over 45,000 listed buildings, over 8,000 scheduled monuments and 645 conservation areas.
This dynamic and precious resource is actively cared for and celebrated by hundreds of thousands of people.
A wide range of specialists work to protect and promote the historic environment across public, private and voluntary sector organisations.
Partnership and collaborative working across the sector contributes to realisation of the benefits and values of our rich and dynamic historic environment assets.
Scotland’s first ever over-arching strategy for the historic environment sets out four key aims:
· Cross-cutting strategic priorities
· Understand – by investigating and recording
· Protect – by caring and protecting
· Value – by sharing and celebrating
