The Stained Glass Repository rescue stained glass windows from being lost, holding the windows temporarily in its repository before relocating them to be enjoyed by future generations.
The Worshipful Company of Glaziers, Painters of Glass writes:
The Stained Glass Repository rescues stained glass from churches that are being closed or repurposed, and holds them in its repository until they can be relocated to a new space, where they can be enjoyed once again.
- The Stained Glass Repository committee: The Stained Glass Repository committee is chaired by Derek Hunt ACR, and advised by the Church Commissioners.
- Guidelines: The committee has prepared guidelines covering both the process for donating panels to the Stained Glass Repository and for installing panels taken from the Stained Glass Repository. Please contact the secretary for a copy.
- Costs: The Repository does not pay for the glass it acquires and correspondingly does not charge the new owners but does ask recipients to consider making a generous donation towards the cost of running of the repository.
Catalogue:
The Repository has over 100 panels of stained glass rescued from heritage sites across England looking for a new home. The catalogue images only hint at the true beauty of the panels in store. All the panels were photographed in our warehouse in artificial light and covered in dust and dirt as a result of their removal from their original home. As the example given here demonstrates, they will be transformed once cleaned and placed in natural light.
