IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly said: ‘Our IHBC NewsBlog posts regularly review the diverse career opportunities in heritage, conservation and related areas, all as posted on our IHBC Jobs etc service.’

‘This round again demonstrates the huge variety of roles that employers are looking to the IHBC for help to fill, here highlighted by four current roles:

  • Locker & Riley Heritage Ltd. calling for Plaster Ceiling Inspectors and Trainee Inspectors
  • Historic England, seeking an Architectural Investigator
  • Aberdeen City Heritage Trust’s call for a Senior Project Officer, and
  • Exmoor National Park’s opening for a Heritage Projects Officer (Heritage at Risk)

All recognise the same service standards and values captured in our Charter-linked discussions, as we deliver public benefit by supporting competence and best practice in conservation, management and care across all aspects of the built and historic environment.  As such they highlight how IHBC credentials and services can help your heritage-linked career, whatever your discipline or career level.’

‘A core focus for us is on interdisciplinary built and historic conservation, so we both demand and support cross-discipline and cross-sector engagement.’

‘At the same time, our success in supporting members’ conservation practice and networks means that our Jobs etc service can reach far beyond our specialist core network. That is why our approach to conservation skills and competence plays such a critical role in employers’ evaluation of the abilities and the potential of candidates.’

‘As regular readers of these NewsBlogs know, career opportunities on the IHBC Jobs etc. service typically range widely across sectors, skills, employers, locations and roles.  However all reflect a common objective: to secure the right person for the post.  They also share a common strategy, as they target IHBC members, their skills and our wide-ranging networks.’

Employers and subscribers see specific strengths too:

  • targeted and responsive user service:
  • dedicated full webpage advert
  • customised emails to nearly 3K subscribers
  • IHBC Jobs etc homepage posting with logo
  • IHBC website homepage with prominent link to IHBC Jobs etc
  • promotion on IHBC’s social networks (c.33k)
  • feature posts on IHBC’s ‘NewsBlog’ email alerts (c.3K subscribers)
  • Review of advertisements on IHBC’s NewsBlogs (subject to service capacity) and
  • an exclusive feedback service on circulation and social media posts performance.
  • Targeted reductions for charities, conservation focus, multiple posts and more

‘So this service makes sure that our posts reach the right people, whatever their level, sector or practice area.  The jobs advertised confirm that too.’

‘This round boasts opportunities that represent the wide range of conservation-related skills needed across government, national and third sectors – including, as noted above, Locker & Riley Heritage calling for Plaster Ceiling Inspectors and Trainee Inspectors; Historic England, seeking an Architectural Investigator, Aberdeen City Heritage Trust’s call for a Senior Project Officer, and Exmoor National Park’s opening for a Heritage Projects Officer (Heritage at Risk).

Altogether these capture just how our Jobs etc service – and IHBC credentials – can benefit your career, whatever you specialism, as well as your business, whatever your size!’

‘Core users are, of course, those operating in local government, and they are also well represented this round.  Such posts typically reach across a range of areas that impact on conservation standards and, especially with these employers, public benefit.  This round sees both Stratford-on-Avon and Cheltenham calling for Conservation Officers, North Yorkshire’s call for a Senior Conservation Officer and Hart’s search for an Assistant Conservation Officer.

The widening awareness of Conservation’s fundamental link to holistic management – from control and regeneration to design – represents an important awareness by employers of the holistic compliance the IHBC captures in our conservation practice standards, assessment and regulatory priorities.  Three posts this round from charities capture that understanding: War Memorials Trust’s Conservation Officer posting, Churches Conservation Trust’s call for an Estate Officer, North, and the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust post for a Conservation Builder.

‘Widening this focus from conservation-led amenity-focussed employers to encompass heritage-linked employers with no less substantial community priorities, Church bodies, we also have informed bodies that see the value and benefits in accessing the IHBC’s skilled networks.  For this round the Diocese of Gloucester seeks a Church Buildings Casework Officer while the Diocese of Salisbury posts for a Heritage Buildings Support (Contract for Services).  The Church of England – Suffolk is also calling for an Historic Church Building Support Officer (HCBSO).

In the private sector, employer interest in competitive services that reach across the spectrum of roles encompassed by the IHBC’s accreditation – the IHBC’s Conservation Cycle, and our Areas of Competence – is also very evident, and at the same wide spectrum of career grades.

So in this round John Gilbert Architects seeks a Senior Conservation Architect – Conservation & Retrofit, Stantec a Senior Heritage Planner, Janus Conservation a Graduate Conservation Surveyor and Walsingham Planning a Heritage Consultant.

‘To find out more on our accreditation standards and processes, our MATE and related sessions are designed help career-focussed, conservation-conscious practitioners secure IHBC accreditation, and at minimal cost.  These events guide members and networks on how to align their skills, knowledge and experience with the IHBC’s own interdisciplinary assessment of conservation competence, a system aligned with national and international conservation practice standards.’
