THA on Hertage Open Days

The Heritage Alliance (THA) has provided an update on the success of England’s Heritage Open Days (HODs).

THA writes:
The 12th-15th of September saw 4,560 properties open their doors– many welcoming an unprecedented number of visitors. In Liverpool a record 8,000 people took the chance to see around Park Hospital and the Seaman’s Orphanage; over 2,000 competitors flocked to the streets of St Albans to take part in its infamous Heritage Open Days Monopoly game; whilst Porthcurno Telegraph Museum in Cornwall and Portland Works in Sheffield broke their annual visitor records.

The programme itself shone with a particularly dazzling array of quirky properties and ‘experiential’ events. Tours got snapped up, particularly in the case of five de-commissioned HM Prisons, one of which had all 520 places fully booked within 24 hours of being released!

The success of the event, however, is testament to the hundreds of volunteers who have not only flung open their doors but have yet again, filled the days with their time, passion and boundless energy, despite some adverse weather conditions. Thank you to all involved!
