STBA ‘Guidance Wheel’ under testing

The Sustainable Traditional Buildings Alliance (STBA), of which the IHBC is a member, has announced that its ‘Guidance Wheel’ model for potential retrofit measures is undergoing testing.

The STBA writes:

The Wheel organises potential retrofit measures grouped by categories around the outer circumference and has summary ‘rings’ for technical, heritage and energy concerns.

The colours: green-yellow-orange-red point out the level of the risk for the various concerns: minor-medium-high-major.  Context factors modify the level of risk for some of the concerns (e.g. state of repair affects trapped moisture concern).

Expanding the tabs shows concern definitions, recommended actions to minimise risk and relevant references. Links to other related measures appear in the centre of the Wheel for the measure selected which allows exploration of the related measures (and their respective concerns) quickly.

The latest enhancements to the Wheel include the ability of add measures to a “chosen” list which can then be printed in a summary report? ?The content of the Wheel has been reviewed by field experts in the various categories and its usability is being tested with various user types including designers, local authorities, energy assessors, green deal providers and researchers. Currently we are carrying out pilot case studies with a final report to DECC expected by late October.
