English Heritage’s Blue Plaque scheme – that recognises significant buildings in the lives of London’s famous residents – has been restarted after a private donation.
Property developer David Pearl has pledged £80,000 to the scheme, which had been suspended due to Government cuts to English Heritage’s budget. The Evening Standard have also given their support, encouraging the public to donate via the English Heritage website, and from next year Standard readers will able to nominate candidates for a plaque.
There are currently 882 Blue Plaques across London – the first, erected in 1867 in Cavendish Square, honouring Lord Byron.
