The Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC), the UK’s professional body for built and historic environment conservation, has kick-started its ‘global conservation’ news service by offering to post links and headlines to conservation-related news features from across the world.
IHBC President Trefor Thorpe welcomed the initiative saying:
‘The big stories from around the world can only empower us to take note, reconsider and do better in our own sphere of activity.
‘The IHBC, as ever, is taking a positive lead in making this possible through our own new global news service. You’re never too old, experienced or important to learn something new or be encouraged to think again about things you thought you understood!’
IHBC’s Communications Secretary Charles Strang said:
‘I’m delighted that the IHBC has once more demonstrated its desire to ‘Think Global; Act Local’, seeking to learn from those involved in Building Conservation around the world, while also sharing our own thoughts and those of our Members on the policies and practices which we are pursuing nearer to home.’
‘In terms of sustainable development and global warming we are absolutely justified in believing that ‘we’re all in this together’, and must work together for mutual benefit: ‘global news’ is an important step forward to that end.’
IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said:
‘To check out this important new development, simply follow the ‘Global’ links on our Home page. You can read and suggest items, as well as search the database and links to news features there, just like on our NewsBlog service.’
‘And remember you can also send us links to news items from any part of the world that you think may be of interest to our networks, simply email global@ihbc.org.uk.’
‘But do also please appreciate that while this is a public service that is open to all, as we are constrained by capacity we’ll have to give IHBC members preference when posting the items’.
