History is more than Hitler & Henries’: History & Archives APPG

A draft report from the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for History and Archives has criticised the way that history is taught in England, saying that too much emphasis is placed on a small number of topics with little to no context.

Heritage Alliance writes:
… Instead [the report argues], pupils should study ‘a broad chronological framework across all periods’ encompassing ‘local, national and international perspectives on British history’. The report, History for All, also noted that the quality of history teaching varied across the country, with more emphasis being put on the subject in affluent areas.

The APPG’s Executive Committee will collate comments on the draft report and officially present their findings in the near future.
