Tighter controls over London landmarks proposed

Famous views of London landmarks are in line to receive greater protection from potentially visually-intrusive development as a result of new draft guidelines published for consultation by Mayor Boris Johnson. The ‘London View Management Framework’ is designed to ensure that landmarks and World Heritage Sites are not obscured or spoilt by development when seen from specific points across the city. These latest proposals increase the safeguards around the 10 established protected ‘Viewing Corridors’ between St Paul’s Cathedral and the Palace of Westminster and suggest two new ones.

The proposed new guidance also gives developers and architects greater clarity about the type of building which will be permitted in key locations across London.
