Dumfries House has announced plans for a major new £6.5 million development named in honour of King Charles, to create a state-of-the-art events space.

The Herald Scotland writes:

The King’s Hall – a single-storey extension to the east wing of the 300-year-old country house – is scheduled to open in summer 2027… delivered by The King’s Foundation, the charity founded by King Charles in 1990 and headquartered at Dumfries House….

Gordon Neil, executive director of The King’s Foundation, said: ‘….The most important thing… was to produce a building that incorporated traditional crafts and locally-sourced building materials. We’ve used a local quarry to mine the stone and utilised the same building techniques as those used to build Dumfries House 300 years ago, while also incorporating newer techniques and elements that we need to include to meet today’s building standards. The King’s Hall will be a true testament to the impact of His Majesty on Dumfries House and the vital education and employment it provides.’

The first phase of the project has been approved by East Ayrshire Council and Historic Environment Scotland. The inaugural events in The King’s Hall are expected to take place in July 2027.
