The IHBC is delighted to announce the launch of a new Early Career Network, to support the next generation of heritage and conservation practitioners, players and professionals, inspired by a new Early Career Working Group initiative.

IHBC leads on the Early Career Working Group, Belle Richer Hill and Kate Hudson-McAulay, issued a joint statement on behalf of the Working Group following its first meeting:
‘We’re delighted to have such enthusiastic interest in an idea that we first explored with some of the IHBC’s National Officers at the Annual School in Newcastle.’
‘Our informal and small Working Group has been formed with a view to creating a welcoming and supportive community network specifically for people entering the heritage sector or starting to build their expertise. The network will be open to interested students, career changers and young practitioners of all backgrounds and disciplines, typically 10 years post-qualification or career change.
‘The Working Group planning the way forward is in its very early stages, but the new network will likely focus on four key themes:
- Entering the heritage sector with support for work experience, apprenticeships, entry-level roles and career changers.
- Learning and training through technical webinars, site visits, practical skills events and professional development opportunities.
- Networking and career development by helping members build confidence, expand professional networks and navigate accreditation pathways.
- Contributing to the IHBC by ensuring early career voices are heard and encouraging greater involvement across the Institute.
‘For now, we are seeking expressions of interest from IHBC members who would like to join the Early Careers Network mailing list by signing up HERE.
Belle Richer Hill added: ‘As the petition for Royal Chartership picks up pace, this is a great opportunity to make Early Career professionals a bigger part of IHBC’s future. We are looking forward to hosting training events, building tours, hands-on practical days and accreditation support.’
‘We will also be lobbying on behalf of issues that affect early career practitioners and professionals. We want to support early careers, strengthen the sector and the profession, andmake the IHBC a welcoming institution for the next generation!’.
