IHBC’s Research Signpost: Input sought from ‘anyone who does, supports or uses’ heritage science

The AHRC has opened a consultation to evaluate the Research Infrastructure for Conservation and Heritage Science (RICHeS) programme, and seeks input ‘from ‘anyone who does, supports or uses this work’.

The survey will only take about 15 minutes to complete

Chris Michaels, Human Economics, writes on behalf of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC):

We are contacting you from Human Economics, an economic analysis and public policy consulting firm working on behalf of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), to ask for your help.

Human Economics has been appointed by AHRC to lead the evaluation of its Research Infrastructure for Conservation and Heritage Science (RICHeS) programme. This evaluation started in Summer 2024 and is expected to run alongside implementation of the RICHeS programme, though to March 2029.

As part of this, we are asking people from the heritage science community to complete a survey about the current state of the heritage science sector and their engagement with it. This will help us assess the results of the RICHeS programme and will support AHRC to refine and enhance future funding competitions.

We are contacting you because we understand you run a website, email list or other media which may be used by the heritage science community. We do not have contact details for everyone in the heritage science community, so we would be very grateful if you could share the survey link with audiences who you believe are doing heritage science work, regardless of whether they might identify themselves as a heritage scientist.

What do we mean by heritage science and the heritage science community?

We define heritage science as the application of scientific techniques and technologies to improve the understanding, conservation, management, and enjoyment of/engagement with cultural heritage. We would like anyone who does, supports or uses this work to complete the survey, including researchers as well as individuals who support, enable or use this research (e.g. archivists, curators, technicians).

The survey will only take about 15 minutes to complete and can be accessed using this survey link: https://www.riches-eval.com/oa/27fd42

Please be assured that survey responses will not affect a current or future AHRC- or UKRI-backed project. All survey responses will be kept confidential and reported anonymously. In our analysis and reporting it will not be possible to identify any person or organisation…
