IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly said: ‘Our IHBC NewsBlog posts regularly review the diverse career opportunities in heritage, conservation and related areas as posted on the IHBC Jobs etc service. This round continues to demonstrate the variety of roles that employers are looking to us to for help to fill, and the many ways we try to help conservation skills and outcomes.’
‘We have had busy time this round, but we continue our particular focus on charity jobs, a user group to which we offer our most generous subsidies, from c.25%, and that’s only to start!’
‘As regular users know, career opportunities on IHBC Jobs etc. typically range widely across sectors, skills, employers, locations and roles. But all reflect a common objective and strategy: in order to secure the person they need, employers target IHBC members, their skills and our wide-ranging networks. That reflects the role the IHBC’s model of conservation skills and competence – our Conservation Cycle – plays in assessing the competences, and the potential, of candidates.’
‘And as current round of posts marks an uptick in opportunities for our IHBC member networks, I am delighted to highlight again our direct financial support for conservation posts on our service.’
Charity employers in this round that could access the 25% advertising fee subsidies include are offering a huge variety of conservation-linked roles include The National Trust for Scotland, for a Building Conservation Surveyor/Architect and Conservation Maintenance Surveyor, the Canal & River Trust for a Heritage Advisor and the Leicester Heritage Buildings Trust’s call for a Project Lead Officer.
Church bodies advertising directly with us also can access these same reductions, and those qualifying this round include the Diocese of London’s ‘Tender Opportunity – Project Development Manager’, St Albans Cathedral’s Sustainability Projects Officer, and The Diocese of Sheffield’s Church Buildings Officers (two posts).
The IHBC’s subsidised support for conservation doesn’t end with charities. Subject to relevant job titles and job descriptions, it includes the public and private sectors. So we also offer subsidies of up to 10% for ‘jobs specifying conservation and heritage accreditations.
With the right specifications, from the public sector the following could save costs with a 10% fee reduction due title roles in ‘Conservation’: Derbyshire’s Conservation Officer, Swindon’s ‘Design & Conservation Officer and ‘Senior Design & Conservation Officer, Fareham’s Conservation Planner and Kirklees Council’s call for a Senior Conservation Officer.
Similarly too, the private sector posts from ARUP, the Assistant Conservation Architect, and Jonathan Rhind Architects, for ‘Conservation Architect / Architectural Assistant’ also could see the 10% reduction for the same lead title responsibilities.
With the right conservation roles, accreditation and skills specified too, jobs with a more general heritage focus can qualify for some reductions. So Marrons call for a ‘Principal Heritage Planner / Associate Director’, Berrys, for a ‘Senior/Heritage Consultant’ and RPS, for a ‘Senior Director/Director – Built Heritage’, all also may secure some such reductions.
Of course where employers are members of IHBC’s HESPR scheme, they also get one Jobs etc post free each year (transferable too!), so why not check out which if the above are HESPR members, and look at the scheme to see if it suits you too!
This round of posts offers sound evidence on how our service – and the subsidies it offers – helps make a real impact on conservation-related matters, regardless of sector, disciple or level. And despite the lower numbers of opportunities than past rounds, all these postings confirm just how cost-effective the IHBC’s Jobs etc service actually is for anyone smart enough to take advantage.’
‘Our great value is a special strength in a sector that is invariably populated by price-sensitive employers, so please make sure your boss knows to use the IHBC’s Jobs etc service, and how to get the best value from it.’
‘Just as the roles here re-affirm the core public interest priorities that underpin this IHBC service, they also capture the broad spectrum of roles encompassed by the IHBC’s accreditation model, the IHBC’s Conservation Cycle, our IHBC Areas of Competence, and the skills represented there.’
‘To find out more on our accreditation matters, our MATE and related sessions help career-focussed, conservation-conscious practitioners secure IHBC accreditation at minimal cost. These guide members and networks on how to align their skills, knowledge and experience with the IHBC’s own interdisciplinary assessment of conservation competence, a system aligned with national and international conservation practice standards.’
