Five new members have joined the Small Charities Advisory Panel (SCAP), led by The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), strengthening its role in advocating for the needs of small charities.
NCVO writes:
The Small Charities Advisory Panel (SCAP) has appointed five new members, ensuring that small charities remain at the heart of its advocacy work. Led by NCVO, SCAP helps amplify the voices of small charities in policy and decision-making. The appointments follow a competitive recruitment process. They also reflect SCAP’s renewed commitment to recruiting a panel made up of small charities exclusively, with the inclusion of one local infrastructure body. This change strengthens SCAP’s ability to champion the needs of small charities and their communities.
Meet the new panel members
The five new members bring a wealth of experience in the small charity sector:
- Nasar Iqbal, Founder and Director, Black Country Innovate CIC
- Kate Little, Deputy Chief Executive, CVS Cheshire East
- Jumoke Quadri, Chief Executive, Nurturing Foundations
- Kynton Swingle, Community Development Manager, Fox Hollies Community Association
- Bill Yuksel, Trustee, Mindera UK Foundation
They join an experienced group of small charity leaders committed to ensuring that small voluntary organisations are better resourced, valued, and connected. SCAP aims to see small charities more meaningfully engaged in policy and funding discussions by 2028.
A renewed commitment to small charities
Following a strategic review in 2024, SCAP decided to ensure that all panel members represent small charities directly. This decision aligns with the principles outlined in the Small Charities Coalition’s closing report:
- If you support or fund small charities, say so upfront.
- Take time to understand the realities of running a small charity.
- Build trust by creating space for relationships.
- Think small, advocate ambitiously.
- Driving change for small charities
Vicki Beevers, Co-Chair of the Small Charities Advisory Panel and CEO of The Sleep Charity: ‘Small charities are experiencing increasing demand for their services while facing resource constraints. The Small Charities Advisory Panel is a crucial platform for advocacy, and I’m delighted to welcome new members who will help drive this work forward.’
Angela Spence, Observer to SCAP and CEO of Kensington and Chelsea Social Council: ‘The newly formed panel is dedicated to strengthening the voice of small charities. As both an NCVO trustee and the CEO of a local infrastructure body, I understand the challenges these organisations face daily. SCAP provides an essential space for collaboration and advocacy.’
Looking ahead
SCAP will continue working closely with NCVO, funders, infrastructure bodies, and government decision-makers to improve support for small charities. By fostering collaboration and engagement, the panel aims to create a landscape where small charities are recognised, well-resourced, and able to thrive.
