The IHBC is delighted to support the Gardens Trust Assembly on ‘Historic Parks and Gardens in the UK Planning Systems’, in person at Cowcross Street, London on 3 April, with a special 15% reduction for members (see dedicated code below).
Gardens Trust writes:
The place of historic parks and gardens in the planning system is at a turning point. The Levelling Up and Regeneration Act 2023 offered them greater protection than ever before, whilst the new government has swiftly revised the National Planning Policy Framework (with further policy changes imminent) and is clear that housing development is a priority. The previous government’s review of statutory consultees shone a light on the unique work of the Gardens Trust in responding to planning application consultations to ensure that historic parks and gardens are a positive part of our shared future. The Gardens Trust stands ready to respond to developing challenges and opportunities.
Historic parks and gardens are crucial not only as a key part of our national cultural story, for which the UK is famed internationally, but also for the health and wellbeing benefits they bring to people from all backgrounds, and the pivotal role they have to play in climate emergency mitigation. It is critical that the planning system is able to protect them whilst delivering necessary development.
Join us at the Gardens Trust’s annual Historic Landscapes Assembly on Thursday 3rd April 2025 to share ideas with sector leaders and experts on this important topic.
