IHBC’s next free online Council CPD, exclusive to all IHBC member categories, includes ‘A Wonderful Barn, a Fort and a Gaol: Structural engineering in Ireland’ with Conall Doherty, while the following Council, on 24 March, will be blended, from London’s Charterhouse, and welcome our Vice President Rebecca Thompson as next President.
IHBC’s Virtual Council: 21 January 2025, 4.00pm
Chair: IHBC President Mike Brown
‘A Wonderful Barn, a Fort and a Gaol: Structural engineering in Ireland’ with Conall Doherty
IHBC writes:
The IHBC’s topical UK wide Council will focus on practice in Northern Ireland and more widely across Ireland. Conall Doherty will provide a ‘Wonderful’ insight into the varied role of a conservation engineer. Projects highlighted include The Wonderful Barn in Co.Kildare, Fort Dunree in Co.Donegal, and McConnell’s Distillery at the Crumlin Road Gaol.
Conall is a conservation accredited engineer (CARE) at Design ID based in Belfast, working across the UK and Ireland. He is a chartered structural engineer with over 14 years experience, specialising in conservation and adaptive reuse.
There will also be a chance to raise your own suggestions and queries about IHBC activities and to hear the latest updates on IHBC’s path to a Charter.
The following meeting, in March, will be a blended Council on Monday 24 March at London Charterhouse, where delegates can welcome and meet our next President, and current Vice President, Rebecca Thompson. IHBC Branches will have the chance to send their own in person delegates, with virtual attendance will be open to all members.
The March Council will include elections under an evolving Council protocol, with multiple posts open for IHBC Vice Presidents. Members are asked to consider if they might come forward for such posts before the formal call for nominations is issued.
IHBC’s Council is the IHBC’s inclusive advisory and training body, open to all IHBC members. All members can join in shaping our activities and plans, as we underpin the involvement of our members in the IHBC’s future through consultation and training.
