IHBC welcomes Rebecca Thompson’s EoI for Vice President, as Council re-scheduled to March, AGM set for 3 May, and first call for next trustees issued

IHBC-accredited Rebecca Thompson, Senior Estate Manager at English Heritage, past President of the CIOB, and Yorkshire Branch Committee member, has had her Expression of Interest in the role of IHBC Vice President – and Council Vice Chair – formally welcomed by the IHBC’s Board.

IHBC’s Chair, David McDonald, and President, Mike Brown, said: ‘We were delighted to hear of Rebecca’s interest in this senior role on the IHBC.  Her huge experience as a conservation practitioner, heritage ambassador and energetic volunteer will add substantial capacity to our operations.  Accordingly, the Board enthusiastically welcomed her nomination at its meeting in December’.

… Rebecca’s name will now go forward for election to the post at the next Council…

‘Many will know too that we are continuing to look at a charter petition for the IHBC in line with plans agreed at our 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM), and she has already been helping advise us on modernising our governance in line with those standards.’

‘Rebecca’s name will now go forward for election to the post at the next Council, now re-scheduled to late March, likely tied to celebrations to mark the end of 25th anniversary programme, #IHBC25.’

‘Elections under our new Articles will continue after March with the IHBC’s 2023 AGM, planned for 3 May, which will be online.  If you are interested in adding your skills to our Board please check out our web guidance on the roles [HERE] and get in touch with either trustees you know, with IHBC Secretary Jo Evans [at ihbcsecretary@ihbc.org.uk] or IHBC Administrator and Company Secretary Lydia Porter [at admin@ihbc.org.uk].’

…encourage nominations….that will address the imbalances you see in the infrastructure of the IHBC’s governance…

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: ‘Detailed calls for our next trustees will be coming out on our NewsBlog service in the coming weeks, so be sure to keep an eye on this.  If that role is not for you, do please encourage nominations from members you know that will address the imbalances you see in the infrastructure of the IHBC’s governance.’

Rebecca Thompson MA, BSc(hons), FCIOB, IHBC, MQSi(Hon) writes in support of her EoI:

… I am an ambassador for IHBC…

I am an accredited Member of the IHBC and bring with me a passion for heritage and our built environment, a wide network with diverse stakeholders and experience in a Vice President and Presidential role.  I operate across a diverse area of the heritage, conservation and construction sectors.  English Heritage are a partner with CIOB to deliver the annual Heritage Conference of which I am an active committee member, event chair and speaker.

I would support the President in Council meetings and operations.  I am currently on the committee for York Consortium for Craft and Conservation, I chair the Environment and Sustainability Committee for the Merchant Adventurers of the City of York and sit as a member of the Council (this post ends in March 2023). I am actively involved with CIOB.

I am an ambassador for IHBC and currently sit on the Yorkshire Branch Committee.  I am happy to promote the Objects of the Institute and assist in contact between the Board and Council on issues and recommendations, including the journey to Chartership.

I have experience of Council structures, membership organisations, charities, and have the skill set for planning, leading and collaboration to ensure alignment of corporate, business and membership wellbeing plans.

I have discussed this opportunity with my line manager, and I have support to attend meetings.  The ‘virtual’ option will improve the capacity participate.

My personal ambition in this role would be to widen the IHBC impact nationally and internationally, assist in the process to achieve Chartership, to encourage the next generation of construction professionals into membership and for them to become actively involved, and to provide practical support to the heritage sector in achieving net zero carbon impact….
