Historic Buildings & Places (HB&P, formerly the Ancient Monuments Society) has issued a special digital issue of its Winter 2024 Heritage Now, packed with breathtaking photography, fascinating features, casework and the latest news, including Edward Holland IHBC – and HESPR member – on the ‘Village Alive Trust’.

HB&P writes:

NEW LISTINGS: Meet the latest additions to the UK’s listed buildings, as John Outram’s post-modernist Sphinx Hall (1999) makes the grade along with the Library at Downside Abbey.

CASEWORK REVIEW: Join Ross Anthony and Matthew Saunders as they review some of the good, the bad and the downright ugly proposals affecting listed buildings in England and Wales today. This issue includes:

  • the conversion of Lancashire cotton mill which would have erased much of its early Georgian history
  • a medieval crypt threatened by a lift installation
  • work at Salford’s RC cathedral to reinstate damage caused by Vatican II.

THREE BUILDINGS by Andrew Prentice:Discover the extraordinary design range of one of our great Edwardian architects, Andrew Noble Prentice.

VILLAGE ALIVE TRUST, Celebrating two decades: Celebrate with HB&P the work of one unique building preservation trust to save buildings at risk; the Village Alive Trust.
