Katerina Brown, new Chief Executive at Historic Environment Scotland, has introduced herself in the latest issue of house circular Keystone, and invited feedback on its new stakeholder survey.

Katerina Brown writes:

I’m delighted to introduce myself as the new Chief Executive of Historic Environment Scotland. I am thrilled to be part of an organisation which is entrusted to protect and promote the incredible heritage that defines our nation.

From the towering castles that have witnessed centuries of history to the hidden gems nestled in our countryside, Scotland’s heritage is a treasure trove waiting to be explored. It’s a testament to our resilience, our creativity, and our enduring spirit.

In recent weeks, I’ve been privileged to explore some of our most iconic sites. At the National Conservation Centre in Stirling, I witnessed the passion and skill of our apprentices and trainees as they work to preserve our heritage for generations to come. It’s inspiring to see how traditional crafts are being combined with cutting-edge technology to ensure that our historic environment remains relevant and accessible.

I’m also excited to announce the launch of our “Making Sense of Scotland” program. This initiative aims to make our historic environment more accessible and inclusive for everyone, regardless of their background or abilities. By breaking down barriers and promoting a deeper understanding of our heritage, we hope to inspire a new generation of custodians.

I invite you to take a moment to share your thoughts on the work of Historic Environment Scotland in our stakeholder survey. Your feedback is invaluable as we strive to conserve and promote our heritage for posterity.

I’m committed to championing heritage and driving forward its contribution to Scotland’s economy, education, skills development, net-zero targets, and wider cultural landscape. Together, we can ensure that our heritage remains a vibrant part of Scotland’s future story.
