The IHBC’s 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) registered overwhelming support from voting members for the ‘next steps’ in the Institute’s petition for charter exploration, rounding off formal business prefaced by an insightful historical analysis of heating, homes and climate change by Dr Robyn Pender, part of our pre-conference #IHBCReading2024 CPD.

…The extensive consultation that has taken place has been justified…
David McDonald, IHBC’s Chair and Chair of the 2024 AGM, said: ‘I’m very pleased to see that the IHBC’s membership has shown its support to moving forward on our Petition for Charter journey. The extensive consultation that has taken place has been justified, and for me it has been pleasure to meet and discuss the wide-ranging issues both in-person and online with branch members. I look forward to progressing matters with the Privy Council Office over the next few months.’
‘I’d especially like to thank Robyn for her 2024 Reading School-linked review heating in our homes, not least as we’d hoped to have her along there too, but the dates didn’t work. However we do still have a remarkable body of skills and expertise across 12 and 13-15 June coming. The Virtual Day School places are priced to maximise access to its learning, so if you can’t attend on the day, be sure to secure your recording by booking our Virtual School so you can watch and learn when suits.
Mike Brown, President of the IHBC said, ‘I’d like to thank all those members who took the time and trouble to attend the AGM and those who sent in their proxies. It is gratifying to see such support for the IHBC and the band of trustees, volunteers and our staff that make it all work. As always, I would encourage all members to come forward and stand for office or simply volunteer and hour or two to help us make this the great institution we think it is.’
‘It is particularly pleasing to see such overwhelming support for our proposal to seek a Royal Charter for the Institute. With the formal adoption of the resolution at the AGM that work (and it will be a huge task) now begins. With your continued strong support I’m sure we will succeed.’
The next IHBC Council meeting (on Thursday 11 July) will hear reports on progress towards that goal and an insight into how the heritage sector is positioning itself ready for the forthcoming general election. More details to follow. Do join us.’
