Historic Environment Scotland (HES) leads on the protection and promotion of some of Scotland’s iconic heritage assets; its castles, its palaces, its heritage collections and archives. It is also a regulator of Scotland’s built heritage environment, a grant provider, a research organisation and an expert heritage adviser. It is charged by the Scottish Government to work with and serve the wider heritage sector and the private, public and third sectors more widely.
As well as being responsible for more than 300 properties of national importance including Edinburgh Castle, Skara Brae and Fort George, which together draw more than 5 million visitors per year, HES also plays a role in the economy, education and skills, placemaking, well-being and net zero. It’s influence really is wide ranging.
The Role
We are looking for an exceptional Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will be an ambitious, inspirational, and transformational leader setting and driving the achievement of the long-term strategic direction of HES.
