IHBC supports local engagement workshops for England’s HERs

Free workshops for improving practice and supporting professional development in HERs, supported by the IHBC and ALGAO, have been announced by English Heritage for 24 April 2012 in Birmingham or Thursday 26 April 2012 in York.

English Heritage says:
Arrival and registration is at 9.30am for a 10.00am start. The event will end at 4pm.

Who is this workshop for?

The workshop is aimed at Historic Environment Record Officers, Conservation Officers and other historic environment service professionals with an interest in improving practice and developing capacity for local engagement.

Why should I attend?

Compiling a local heritage list; supporting communities in the production of neighbourhood development plans; growing an active role for local communities in heritage protection; enhancing HER content and coverage; raising your profile; and extending your stakeholder base: are just a few of the reasons why local engagement is important to historic environment services right now.

Join the workshop to:

– Explore how developing capacity for local engagement can help you survive and thrive in today’s tough climate

– Have your say. Share thoughts on the opportunities and challenges local engagement brings

– Build ideas on how to work in partnership with colleagues

– Gain new understanding and skills in the use of social media

– Find out what works and does not work direct from case study experience

On the day

During the morning we will consider and try out a range of tools for local engagement, drawing on both traditional communication and social media approaches.

In the afternoon, create a buzz by joining in the Local Engagement activity game where you can explore options and make informed choices designed around helping you develop a local engagement strategy.

This event is free of charge and places are limited. If your job role is not in the target audience for the course you can still register interest, as last minute places may become available.

The event is organised by English Heritage in conjunction with ALGAO and IHBC. The workshops will be facilitated by Sound Delivery, an award-winning digital media training, production and consultancy company.
