The in-house Historic Buildings, Sites and Monuments Record (HBSMR) of the National Trust (NT) is now available to cross-search on the Heritage Gateway.
The National Trust writes:
62,000 English records from the National Trust’s archaeological database, many of which were created by volunteers, can now be cross-searched with national resources such as the National Heritage List for England (NHLE) and PastScape plus local Historic Environment Record (HER) data. Inclusion of the data on the Heritage Gateway will provide much greater access to the NT HBSMR and increase understanding of the historic environment when searching through the website.
The addition of the NT HBSMR brings the total resource available on the Heritage Gateway to 49 including 42 local HER resources (about 50% of English HERs) and seven national resources including the NHLE and PastScape. English Heritage is committed to continuing to add resources to the Heritage Gateway and more HER datasets are expected to go live in the near future.
More exciting developments are planned for the Heritage Gateway in 2012 and I will keep you up to date with these via the HER Forum and EH colleagues. We are hoping to go live with new mapping functionality later this month and that you will soon see improvements in searching and the overall ‘look and feel’ of the site.
In the meantime, if you have any questions about our plans for future development, feedback on the website or would like to find out more about joining the Heritage Gateway, please send an email to heritagegateway@english-heritage.org.uk.
